The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose, and the other inactive ingredients are standard binders and flow agents (hypromellose, magnesium stearate, calcium carbonate, and purified water).

Beta-sitosterol, the one active ingredient we have evidence for, is listed as likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) and possibly effective for familial hypercholesterolemia (an inherited cholesterol disorder) and coronary heart disease. How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-sitosterol is generally well tolerated when used short-term in adults, though the most common side effects are digestive — constipation, diarrhea, gas, indigestion, and nausea. It can reduce appetite in some people.
There's one case report of acute pancreatitis possibly linked to beta-sitosterol, though symptoms resolved when the person stopped taking it. Beta-sitosterol may also worsen acne if you're prone to it.
