Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Policosanol 10 mg by Bronson contains one active ingredient: policosanol, a plant-derived compound derived from sugarcane wax. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — gelatin, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — which serve as the capsule shell and binders to hold everything together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
In our data, policosanol is rated likely effective for intermittent claudication, a condition where you get leg pain with exercise due to poor blood flow. However, for coronary heart disease and familial hypercholesterolemia, the evidence isn't established — we don't have enough reliable data to rate whether it works for those conditions.
One note: the real-world benefit of policosanol is uncertain, and quality varies between products.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Policosanol is generally well tolerated in studies. The most common side effects in trial participants were uncommon in frequency and included headache, dizziness, sleepiness or insomnia, upset stomach, skin rash, and weight loss.
A small number of trial participants reported mild headache, vertigo, or insomnia, and weight loss has been observed, though it's uncommon in real-world use. There isn't enough safety information to recommend policosanol during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Policosanol by Bronson, double-check these medication types with your doctor or pharmacist: beta-blockers and propranolol (blood pressure drugs), blood thinners like warfarin and other anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs, diabetes medications, and nitroprusside. All carry Moderate-severity interactions that could affect how well your medications work or increase side effects like low blood pressure or low blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have intermittent claudication and want to explore policosanol, it's worth a conversation with your doctor or pharmacist — especially if you're on blood pressure medication, blood thinners, or diabetes drugs. The interactions we've documented are all Moderate in severity, so they're manageable with the right dosing adjustments and monitoring, but they need to be checked first.

Policosanol 10 mg by Bronson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Policosanol by Bronson does interact with medications through its single active ingredient.
The most serious interactions we've documented are Moderate in severity and affect blood pressure medications (beta-blockers and nitroprusside), blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs), diabetes medications, and the specific blood thinner warfarin.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Beta-blockers and propranolol can experience additive blood pressure-lowering effects when combined with policosanol — meaning your blood pressure could drop more than intended. Similarly, nitroprusside (a potent blood pressure medication) may have increased effects.
With blood thinners like warfarin or other anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs, there's a theoretical risk that policosanol could raise your bleeding and bruising risk, since some research shows it can slow down platelet clumping.
Diabetes medications carry a similar concern: policosanol can lower blood sugar on its own, so combined use might tip your levels too low (low blood sugar or hypoglycemia). Altogether, these interactions span 242 individual medications.
Before you start policosanol, run your exact medications — especially blood pressure drugs, blood thinners, and diabetes treatments — through the tool on this page.

For each ingredient in Policosanol 10 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Policosanol
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking policosanol with other antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Some clinical research shows that taking policosanol 10-50 mg daily for 7-15 days can inhibit platelet aggregation in healthy patients. Although, one clinical trial shows that taking policosanol 10 mg twice daily for 2 weeks prior to warfarin dosing does not affect warfarin pharmacokinetics or warfarin response. Furthermore, a study in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with a drug-eluting stent found that taking policosanol 40 mg plus clopidogrel and aspirin daily for 30 days modestly reduced the risk for minor bleeding events when compared with taking clopidogrel and aspirin alone. Until more is known, use with caution.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, policosanol might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that policosanol can lower blood glucose levels.
Beta-Blockers
Concomitant use of policosanol with beta-blockers can cause additive blood pressure-lowering effects.
Clinical research shows that policosanol 5 mg daily can have additive blood pressure-lowering effects in patients with hypertension who are taking beta-blockers. Also, animal research shows that policosanol can increase the blood-pressure lowering effects of propranolol.
Nitroprusside (Nitropress)
Theoretically, concomitant use of policosanol with nitroprusside might cause additive blood pressure-lowering effects.
Animal research shows that taking policosanol along with nitroprusside can increase the blood pressure-lowering effects of nitroprusside.
Propranolol (Inderal)
Animal research shows that taking policosanol along with propranolol can increase the blood pressure-lowering effects of propranolol.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, taking policosanol with warfarin might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Some clinical research shows that taking policosanol 10-50 mg daily for 7-15 days can inhibit platelet aggregation in healthy patients. However, one clinical trial shows that taking policosanol 10 mg twice daily for 2 weeks prior to warfarin dosing does not affect warfarin pharmacokinetics or warfarin response.
