- Resveratrol is a natural plant compound and antioxidant found in grapes and grape juice, red wine, peanuts and the Japanese knotweed plant. Studied for its health benefits and relationship to cell lifespan and heart health, it is the compound believed to be responsible for the "French Paradox" (the theory that frequent red wine consumption may explain how the low rate of heart disease among the French, who typically consume a high fat diet). Resveratrol given to other living organisms has resulted in an increase in their lifespan.
