What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin your body uses to convert food into energy and support healthy skin, hair, and nails. Each capsule delivers 5,000 micrograms — much more than you'd get from food alone.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients (modified cellulose, gelatin, silica, and magnesium stearate) that help hold it together and keep it stable on the shelf.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency, the condition it's meant to treat. For other uses — multiple sclerosis, seborrheic dermatitis (a scaly, itchy scalp condition), and alopecia areata (patchy hair loss) — the evidence isn't there yet.
The data we hold doesn't rate biotin as effective for those purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at high doses, because your body simply excretes what it doesn't need in urine. Mild diarrhea has rarely been reported in people taking very high doses (300 mg daily, far above what's in this product).
One isolated case report described an unusual immune reaction in an older patient taking high-dose biotin plus other supplements over months, but no pattern has emerged — it may have been coincidental. The safety data advises checking with your doctor before taking high-dose biotin supplements; amounts from food and prenatal vitamins are considered appropriate without discussion.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for biotin. That doesn't mean they can't happen — run your exact medications through the search tool on this page to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have a biotin deficiency or want extra biotin for general health, this is a straightforward supplement. Talk to your doctor first if you're on high-dose supplements overall or have any unusual health conditions.
Biotin at this dose is unlikely to cause trouble, but your pharmacist can confirm it won't interfere with anything you're taking.
