What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: tomato juice concentrate at 450 mg per capsule. Tomato juice is a source of lycopene and other compounds found in tomato fruit.
The capsule itself is made with gelatin and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for tomato juice for specific health conditions is mixed and limited. It's rated possibly ineffective for bladder cancer, breast cancer, and diabetes.
For hyperlipidemia (high blood fats), benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and exercise-induced asthma, the data we hold shows insufficient evidence to rate whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering this for a particular reason, talk it over with your doctor — they can tell you whether the current evidence supports its use for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Tomato as a whole food is well tolerated for most people, and tomato extracts in typical amounts also appear to be well tolerated. However, the safety notes flag that concentrated tomato supplements are less studied than the food itself, and high-dose lycopene or extract supplements should be avoided unless your clinician advises otherwise.
One rare case report documented an airborne allergy to tomato stem proteins in a person who worked around tomatoes, though that person did not have a food allergy to tomato fruit itself. Tomatine, a compound found in tomato leaves and unripe green tomatoes, can cause serious side effects in excessive amounts — including dizziness, headache, mild spasms, diarrhea, vomiting, and in rare cases more severe effects.
Since this product is made from ripe tomato juice, not leaves or green fruit, typical use should avoid that risk. Pregnancy and lactation are rated likely safe for tomato.
