What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: organic holy basil. It's prepared as a liquid, and the inactive ingredients are grain alcohol and deionized water.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence isn't established in our data for holy basil against any of its common uses. The ratings we hold show insufficient reliable evidence for generalized anxiety, asthma, headache, respiratory infections, dental plaque, and diabetes.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the studies so far haven't been strong enough to say.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Holy basil extract is generally well tolerated short-term in adults, but long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects when taken by mouth are loose stools and nausea—a small number of trial participants experienced these.
The safety data advise against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, since animal studies raised concerns and human safety hasn't been established.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate risk of increased bleeding), antidiabetes medications (Moderate risk of low blood sugar), or pentobarbital or other sedatives (Moderate risk of increased drowsiness).

Tulsi Holy Basil by BIOVEA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
BIOVEA's Tulsi Holy Basil liquid contains holy basil, which has documented interactions with three drug types.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants/antiplatelets)—a Moderate-severity interaction where holy basil seed oil may increase bleeding risk by slowing how your blood clots, though this has only been shown in animals so far.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Holy basil also interacts with diabetes medications (Moderate severity): small studies suggest it can lower blood sugar, so taking it alongside antidiabetes drugs might tip you toward low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Additionally, there's a Moderate-severity interaction with pentobarbital (a sedative), where holy basil seed oil may strengthen its sedative effects—again, animal data only.
Altogether, these interactions span 212 individual medications. Use the interaction checker below to search your exact prescriptions before you start this product.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies show that taking holy basil can decrease fasting blood glucose and other measures of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the sedative effects of pentobarbital.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil increases pentobarbitone-induced sleeping time. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans or if this applies to other barbiturates or sedatives.
