Witch hazel is possibly effective for hemorrhoids. For eczema (atopic dermatitis), it's rated possibly ineffective.
For varicose veins and postmenopausal symptoms, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?

Topically, witch hazel is generally well tolerated. The most common side effect is contact dermatitis — a small number of people develop redness or burning on the skin where they apply it.
This product is not meant to be taken by mouth. If you do take it orally, high doses may cause more side effects because of the tannin content in the plant; at very high doses, kidney and liver damage is rare but possible.
Witch hazel contains 8% to 10% tannins, and some research links regular consumption of high-tannin herbs with increased risk of certain cancers, though other evidence suggests tannins may prevent cancer — the picture is mixed.
