Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?

This product contains one active ingredient: yucca root extract. The liquid also includes glycerin and water as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Yucca product and its label doesn't state a use — see Yucca's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for yucca root is thin. We don't have reliable data to rate whether it works for bleeding, joint pain, or dandruff — the three uses the research has looked at.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the studies so far haven't been strong enough to say.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Yucca is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but supplement safety hasn't been well studied. The main concerns come from direct contact: environmental or occupational exposure to yucca has triggered allergic rhinitis (inflamed nasal passages) and contact urticaria (hives) in some people, particularly those with existing skin sensitivity.

Topical exposure can also cause phytodermatitis (plant-related skin inflammation). If you have known plant allergies or sensitive skin, mention this product to your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Yucca Root may be worth trying if you're exploring options for joint pain, bleeding, or dandruff — and it doesn't interact with medications we've checked. But the evidence for whether it actually works is weak, and supplement safety data is limited.

Talk to your pharmacist before starting, especially if you have allergies or sensitive skin.

Yucca Root by Indiana Botanic Gardens: Common Questions

Does Yucca Root by Indiana Botanic Gardens interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Yucca Root. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Yucca Root contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does yucca root interact with any of my medications?
Not based on what we have on file — yucca root has no documented interactions with medications. That said, supplement safety research is limited, so it's always smart to run your exact medication list through the checker on this page or ask your pharmacist.
Does this actually work for joint pain?
We don't have reliable evidence to say whether it works. The research on yucca for joint pain hasn't been strong enough yet to give it a rating one way or the other.
Is yucca safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety information available. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this — they can help you weigh the unknowns for your situation.
Can yucca cause allergic reactions?
Yes — environmental or occupational exposure to yucca has triggered nasal allergies and hives in some people, especially those with existing skin sensitivity. If you have plant allergies or reactive skin, mention this to your doctor before starting.
What's the difference between this liquid and a capsule form?
The facts I have cover this product only — a liquid extract. If you're comparing to another form, ask your pharmacist about how absorption or dose might differ.
