Key points

  • The 1mg dose and 2mg dose Ozempic pens contain the same volume of liquid (3mL per pen), but the 2mg pen has a higher drug concentration. The 1mg pen has a concentration of 4mg of drug per 3mL, while the 2mg pen has a concentration of 8mg of drug per 3mL.
  • This means that whether you inject 1mg from the 1mg pen or 2mg from the 2mg pen, you're injecting the same volume of liquid (approximately 0.746 mL) into your body.

Answer

Great question! Thanks for reaching out. You are correct that the Ozempic 1mg dose pen and the 2mg dose pen contain the same volume (3mL per pen). However, the 2mg dose pen is a higher concentration. I've got images of the packaging below that demonstrate this.

Ozempic 1mg and 2mg pen concentration difference

As you can see in the above images:

  • The 1mg per dose Ozempic pen contains a total of 3mL. The concentration of the pen is 4mg of drug per 3mL (or 4mg/3mL).
  • The 2mg per dose Ozempic pen also contains a total of 3mL. The concentration of the pen is 8mg of drug per 3mL (or 8mg/3mL).

So, even though the two different pens are the same 'size' (i.e., contain the same volume of liquid), they are different concentrations.

In fact, based on the concentration of these pens, regardless of whether or not you are injecting 1mg (from the 1mg per dose pen) or the 2mg (from the 2mg per dose pen), you are injecting the same volume of liquid into your body (which comes out to around 0.746 mL).

I hope you found this answer helpful!

Thank you!
