ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Fosnetupitant, Palonosetron (IV)
Fosnetupitant, Palonosetron (IV) falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Agar interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's some good news that should ease your mind. The worry on file is that agar swells into a thick gel in your gut and could grab onto medications, slowing how much gets absorbed. But your Akynzeo is given as an IV infusion, straight into a vein. It never passes through your stomach or intestines, so a fiber gel sitting in your digestive tract simply can't interfere with it.
On top of that, this concern is purely theoretical and comes mainly from animal feeding studies looking at minerals, not real-world drug problems. So for the IV form, I wouldn't expect agar to weaken its anti-nausea protection during chemo. If you ever switch to an oral medication, that's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist.
