Alkaline Diet and Esketamine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Esketamine and Alkaline Diet in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Alkaline Diet alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Alkaline Diet at all — not against Esketamine, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Alkaline Diet is an eating pattern rather than something you take. Ask your pharmacist or doctor before changing how you eat while on a prescribed medicine: some medicines are dosed around meals, and a change in diet can change how they work. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Esketamine. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 17,728 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Esketamine that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Alkaline Diet’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Alkaline Diet side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Alkaline Diet has no side effects.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Esketamine page

“Esketamine (Spravato) is the nasal spray for depression that hasn't responded to standard treatment, and its supplement list deserves genuine respect. Scopolia carries the only major rating and is the entry to understand before any other; pairing it with the medication can raise the risk of anticholinergic effects, meaning dry mouth, b…”

Where does our data come from?
  • Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions. Alkaline Diet is not yet covered by that licensed database, so its write-up cites publicly available medical sources directly (see the references below).
  • Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Alkaline Diet reference on this page ↓

About Alkaline Diet

What is Alkaline Diet?

  • General wellness
  • Bone health
  • Weight management
  • Kidney stone prevention
  • Reducing inflammation

The alkaline diet encourages eating more fruits and vegetables while cutting back on meat, dairy, and processed foods, which is generally healthy. However, the idea that food can meaningfully change your blood's pH is not supported by science, since your body tightly controls its own pH. Most benefits people see likely come from simply eating more whole plant foods.

Dietary pattern emphasizing fruits, vegetables, legumes, and limiting meat, dairy, and processed foods

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Alkaline Diet is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Alkaline Diet record says about it on its own.

Alkaline Diet: dosing

There is no standard 'dose' for the alkaline diet because it is an eating pattern, not a pill. In general, it means filling more of your plate with fruits, vegetables, and legumes while cutting back on processed foods, added sugar, and excess meat.If you choose to follow it, aim for a balanced version that still includes enough protein, calcium, and other key nutrients. A registered dietitian or your pharmacist can help you adjust the plan safely, especially if you have a health condition or take medications.

About Esketamine Nasal Spray

What Is Esketamine Nasal Spray Used For?

Brand name: Spravato

Spravato nasal spray is approved for two uses in adults. First, it treats treatment-resistant depression (TRD) — depression that has not responded to other antidepressants — either on its own or alongside an oral antidepressant. Second, it treats depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) who have acute suicidal ideation or behavior, always used together with an oral antidepressant in this case.

Important limits: Spravato has not been shown to prevent suicide or reduce suicidal thoughts or behavior on its own. It is not a replacement for hospitalization if that is clinically needed, and it is not approved as an anesthetic.
