No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Androstenetrione and Cysteamine in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Androstenetrione and Cysteamine

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Cysteamine and Androstenetrione in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What to actually watch for

What Androstenetrione Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Cysteamine. It is the side-effect record for Androstenetrione on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Androstenetrione, this list is the first place to look.

  • Breast tenderness / Acne Additional detail

“There is no data regarding oral use of androstenetrione in humans. However, androstenetrione might increase testosterone levels. Theoretically, androstenetrione might cause testosterone-like side effects including spermatogenesis and infertility, acne, testicular atrophy, gynecomastia, behavioral changes, cardiovascular disease, and potentially increase the risk of pancreatic and prostate cancer.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Androstenetrione — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Cysteamine’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Cysteamine column appears here.

How to take them

Some Cysteamine Products Have a Food Rule — Androstenetrione Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Cysteamine says to take it with food. If you take Androstenetrione on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Cysteamine with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Cysteamine products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

If unable to take PROCYSBI without eating, take with food but limit the amount of food to approximately 4 ounces (½ cup) 1 hour before through 1 hour after administration.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Cysteamine — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. See the Cysteamine drug page ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

About Androstenetrione

What is Androstenetrione?

Androstenetrione
  • Boosting testosterone
  • Lowering estrogen
  • Bodybuilding and muscle building
  • Post-cycle support for steroid users
  • Athletic performance

Androstenetrione (6-OXO) is a synthetic compound marketed to raise testosterone by blocking the enzyme that turns testosterone into estrogen. Solid human evidence that it offers real benefits is lacking, and it can cause hormone-related side effects, so most people should avoid it and talk with a healthcare provider first.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Androstenetrione is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Androstenetrione record says about it on its own.

Androstenetrione: dosing

There is no established, standardized dose for androstenetrione, and no dose has been proven safe and effective. Different products contain different amounts.Because of the hormone-related risks and weak evidence, we cannot recommend a specific amount.

About Cysteamine

What Is Cysteamine Used For?

Brand name: Cystadrops

Cysteamine treats cystinosis, a rare inherited disease in which a substance called cystine accumulates inside cells and damages organs — especially the kidneys, eyes, and other tissues over time.

Cystagon (oral capsule) and Procysbi (oral delayed-release capsule and oral powder) are each used to treat nephropathic cystinosis — the kidney-affecting form of the disease — in children and adults. Cystadrops and Cystaran are eye drops used to treat corneal cystine crystal deposits (cystine crystals that form on the surface of the eye) in patients with cystinosis.
