Blackberry and Olaparib

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Olaparib and Blackberry in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Blackberry at all — not against Olaparib, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Blackberry safety at a glance

Blackberry overall Generally safe The fruit is safe as a food; medicinal leaf and root preparations are likely safe in typical amounts but less studied.
Pregnancy Use caution The berry as food is fine, but concentrated leaf or root supplements lack safety data, so use caution.
Breastfeeding Use caution Eating the fruit is fine, but there is not enough information on medicinal supplements while nursing.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

What Olaparib’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Blackberry. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Olaparib’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. • A low platelet count Worth acting on
  • Raised blood pressure Worth acting on
  • Shortness of breath Worth acting on

  • Liver problems Worth acting on
  • A higher chance of infection Worth acting on

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Olaparib. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 20,798 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Olaparib that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Blackberry’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Blackberry side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Blackberry has no side effects.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Olaparib

This page covers Blackberry only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Olaparib page lists 138 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Grapefruit (major), St. John's Wort (major), Acacia Rigidula (moderate) and Adrafinil (moderate).

By severity: 3 major · 94 moderate · 41 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Olaparib page

“Grapefruit is the first thing to drop if you take Olaparib (Lynparza). It blocks CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears this cancer drug, so levels can climb and side effects with them.”

About Blackberry

What is Blackberry?

  • Diarrhea
  • Sore throat and mouth rinse
  • General antioxidant support
  • Digestive upset
  • Source of vitamins and fiber

Blackberry is a common edible berry that is safe and nutritious as a food, rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidant plant compounds. The leaves and root have a long history of traditional use for diarrhea and sore throat, but high-quality human studies on these medicinal uses are limited. Enjoy the fruit freely, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated leaf or root supplements.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Blackberry is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Blackberry record says about it on its own.

Blackberry: dosing

There is no official standardized dose for blackberry as a supplement. As a food, blackberries can be eaten freely as part of a balanced diet. For leaf teas or extracts, traditional use varies and a reliable evidence-based dose has not been established. About Olaparib

What Is Olaparib Used For?

Brand name: Lynparza

Lynparza (olaparib) is used to treat adults with certain ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancers that carry BRCA or other DNA-repair gene mutations — both as a maintenance therapy after platinum-based chemotherapy (including in combination with bevacizumab for some patients) and for recurrent disease. It is also approved for HER2-negative breast cancer with a germline BRCA mutation, both in early high-risk disease (adjuvant setting) and in metastatic disease.

Lynparza is additionally used as maintenance therapy for adults with germline BRCA-mutated metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma whose disease has not progressed on first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, and for adults with certain gene-mutated metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer — either alone (after prior enzalutamide or abiraterone) or in combination with abiraterone and prednisone or prednisolone. All uses require testing for specific genetic mutations using an FDA-approved companion diagnostic before starting treatment.
