Javanese Turmeric and Bempedoic Acid

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Bempedoic Acid and Javanese Turmeric in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Javanese Turmeric safety at a glance

Javanese Turmeric overall Use caution Generally well tolerated in food-like amounts, but human safety data for concentrated supplements are limited.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety data, so it is best avoided during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid Safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so avoiding it is the safer choice.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Bempedoic Acid

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Bempedoic Acid is filed under 2 classifications — organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates, oral drugs. Javanese Turmeric has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being warfarin (coumadin) (moderate) — and none of Bempedoic Acid’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Javanese Turmeric Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Bempedoic Acid. It is the side-effect record for Javanese Turmeric on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Javanese Turmeric, this list is the first place to look.

  • Stomach upset / Nausea Additional detail

“Orally, Javanese turmeric can cause gastric irritation and nausea when used in large amounts or for prolonged periods of time (2,8).”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Javanese Turmeric — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Bempedoic Acid’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Bempedoic Acid column appears here.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Bempedoic Acid

This page covers Javanese Turmeric only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Bempedoic Acid page lists 21 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), African Wild Potato (moderate), Banderol (moderate), Caffeic Acid (moderate) and Coffee Charcoal (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 11 moderate · 9 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Bempedoic Acid page

“Activated charcoal is the ingredient I would rule out entirely on bempedoic acid (Nexletol), a daily tablet for lowering LDL cholesterol. It carries the only major rating of the 21 ingredients on file because it can trap the drug in the gut and shrink the dose your body absorbs.”

About Javanese Turmeric

What is Javanese Turmeric?

  • Digestive upset and bloating
  • Liver and gallbladder support
  • Loss of appetite
  • Joint and inflammation complaints
  • General wellness tonic

Javanese turmeric (Curcuma zanthorrhiza), known in Indonesia as temulawak, is a ginger-family root traditionally used for digestive and liver complaints. Early lab and animal studies are interesting, but strong human evidence is limited, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a health condition or take medications.
