Calcium channel blockers might reduce lithium concentrations. Monitor lithium levels with concurrent use. Calcium channel blockers might also increase the adverse neurological and gastrointestinal adverse effects of lithium. It is unclear if these interactions would occur with the smaller doses found in lithium supplements.

Here's the gist if you're combining amlodipine (Katerzia) with a lithium product. The concern isn't that amlodipine builds up or gets weaker. Amlodipine isn't a prodrug, and this interaction is really about what happens to the lithium side. In theory, calcium channel blockers like amlodipine may lower lithium levels, and at the same time they may make lithium's nervous-system and stomach side effects more likely, things like tremor, unsteadiness, confusion, nausea, or diarrhea.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical interaction based on how these drugs behave, not strong human studies. It's also unclear whether the tiny amounts in supplements like lithium orotate matter at all. Still, please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Katerzia

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
