Patchouli Oil and Meprobamate
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Meprobamate and Patchouli Oil in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Patchouli Oil at all — not against Meprobamate, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Meprobamate Is Prescribed For, and What Patchouli Oil Has Been Studied For
These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Meprobamate is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Patchouli Oil is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.
Meprobamate is prescribed for: Meprobamate tablets are used to manage anxiety disorders or to provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It is intended for anxiety that rises to the level of a disorder — everyday stress and tension that most people experience generally do not require this type of medication. Because its effectiveness beyond four months has not been well studied, meprobamate is typically used for a limited period of time, with a prescriber checking in regularly to decide whether continued use is still appropriate.

Patchouli Oil for stress
Preliminary clinical research in nurses shows that inhalation of patchouli oil for 20 minutes once daily for 2 doses reduces self-reported stress scores and increases compassion satisfaction scores when compared with placebo inhalation. Inhalation of patchouli oil did not appear to affect self-reported burnout or markers of stress such as blood pressure and heart rate.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Meprobamate on your own; if you are taking Patchouli Oil for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

About Patchouli Oil
What is Patchouli Oil?
- Aromatherapy and relaxation
- Skin care
- Insect repellent
- Fragrance and perfume
- Antimicrobial use
- Mood support
Patchouli oil is an essential oil pressed from the leaves of the patchouli plant, used mainly for its strong, earthy scent in aromatherapy, skin products, and perfumes. Most claimed health benefits come from laboratory studies rather than solid human trials, so its real-world value remains unproven. Like all essential oils, it should be diluted before skin use and never swallowed unless directed by a qualified professional.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Patchouli Oil is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Patchouli Oil record says about it on its own.
Patchouli Oil: dosing
There is no established standard dose for patchouli oil, and it is not meant to be taken by mouth. For topical use, it is typically diluted to a small percentage in a carrier oil before being applied to the skin. For aromatherapy, a few drops may be added to a diffuser according to the product directions.
