Tagetes and Barium Sulfate

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Barium Sulfate and Tagetes in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Tagetes at all — not against Barium Sulfate, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Tagetes safety at a glance

Tagetes overall Use caution Generally considered low-risk in food amounts, but the essential oil and concentrated extracts can irritate skin and lack strong safety data.
Pregnancy Avoid Avoid medicinal or essential oil use during pregnancy because safety has not been established.
Breastfeeding Avoid Not enough safety information exists, so avoid medicinal use while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

What Tagetes Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Barium Sulfate. It is the side-effect record for Tagetes on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Tagetes, this list is the first place to look.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Tagetes — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Barium Sulfate’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Barium Sulfate column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Barium Sulfate page

“Barium sulfate (Readi-Cat, Varibar, E-Z-HD) is the chalky liquid you drink so a CT scan or X-ray can see your stomach and intestines, and the 17 supplement interactions on file here deserve genuine attention before scan day. Every ingredient listed acts where barium works, in the gut.”

About Tagetes

What is Tagetes?

  • Digestive upset
  • Antimicrobial and antifungal
  • Skin and wound care
  • Insect repellent
  • Eye health (lutein source from petals)

Tagetes (marigold) is a group of flowering plants used in traditional medicine and as a source of plant pigments like lutein. Human evidence for most health benefits is very limited, and the essential oil can cause skin reactions and sun sensitivity. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Asteraceae · Flowers, leaves, and essential oil · Essential oil, tea, dried flowers, topical preparations, tinctures

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Tagetes is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Tagetes record says about it on its own.

Tagetes: dosing

There is no well-established standard dose for Tagetes as a supplement or medicine. Products vary widely in strength, and the amount of active compounds depends on the species, plant part, and how it was prepared. If you choose to use a Tagetes product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them. Essential oils should be diluted before any skin use and kept away from the eyes and mouth.
