What Severity, Likelihood & Evidence Mean

Severity — How Serious It Can Be

  • Major. Clinically significant; generally best avoided, or used only under direct professional supervision.
  • Moderate. May need monitoring, a dose adjustment, or separating the times you take each one.
  • Minor. Generally not clinically significant, but still worth noting and mentioning to your pharmacist.
  • No known interaction. Checked against our sources with nothing documented — not the same as proven safety.

Likelihood — How Well It’s Documented

  • Likely. Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction
  • Probable. Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
  • Possible. Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists
  • Unlikely. Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

Where This Data Comes From

  • Interaction records are evidence-graded and sourced from the Natural Medicines database (TRC Healthcare), the same reference used by pharmacists and hospitals.

Halodrol-50: Uses, Safety & Side Effects

The bottom line

Halodrol-50 is a brand-name 'prohormone' designer supplement, not an herb, that was marketed to build muscle and strength. Older versions contained synthetic anabolic steroid-like compounds that were later banned in the United States, and these substances carry real risks of liver injury and hormone disruption. Because product formulas have changed over time and ingredients can be unpredictable, we recommend avoiding it and talking with your pharmacist or doctor before using any prohormone product.

Overview

Halodrol-50 is a brand-name dietary supplement, not a plant or herb. It was sold in the bodybuilding world as a 'prohormone' or 'designer steroid' product meant to help users gain muscle and strength.

The original product contained a synthetic compound chemically related to anabolic steroids. After concerns about safety and the law, the U.S. government classified several of these designer steroid ingredients as controlled substances. Over the years, companies have sold products under the same or similar names with different formulas, which makes it hard to know exactly what is in any given bottle.

Because Halodrol-50 is a manufactured chemical product rather than a traditional botanical, it does not have a natural source, growing region, or 'part used' the way an herb does.

How it works

Prohormone products like Halodrol-50 were designed to deliver compounds that the body may convert into, or that act similarly to, anabolic steroids. These steroid-like substances are thought to bind to androgen receptors and promote muscle growth.

Because these are synthetic, hormone-active chemicals, they can affect the body's natural testosterone and estrogen balance. Much of what is understood comes from knowledge of anabolic steroids in general rather than from detailed study of this specific product.

Importantly, the ingredients in products sold under this name have changed over time, so the actual active compound in any bottle may not match the label or older versions.

Safety & precautions

We recommend avoiding Halodrol-50 and similar prohormone products. Anabolic steroid-like substances have been linked to liver damage, hormonal imbalances, cholesterol changes, and other serious effects. Some ingredients used in these products were made illegal in the United States.

People with liver, heart, kidney, or hormone-related conditions, as well as teenagers and young adults whose bodies are still developing, should be especially careful and avoid these products. Athletes should also know that prohormones can cause a failed drug test.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Do not use Halodrol-50 if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Hormone-altering and anabolic substances can harm a developing baby and pass into breast milk.

Always talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using any muscle-building supplement.

Side effects

Reported and expected side effects of anabolic and prohormone-type products include:

  • Liver problems, sometimes serious, including jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Acne and oily skin
  • Hair loss or unwanted hair growth
  • Mood changes, irritability, or aggression
  • Changes in cholesterol and increased cardiovascular risk
  • Suppression of the body's own testosterone, which can cause low libido, fatigue, or shrinking testicles
  • In women, deepening of the voice and other masculinizing effects, some of which may be permanent

Seek medical care right away if you notice yellowing skin, dark urine, severe abdominal pain, or chest pain while using such a product.

Dosing

There is no established safe or standardized dose for Halodrol-50, and we do not recommend using it. Because product formulas have changed and ingredients may be mislabeled, even following the package directions does not guarantee safety.

If you are considering any muscle-building supplement, the safest step is to speak with a pharmacist or doctor first so they can help you weigh the risks and look for safer, legal alternatives.
