What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-Methionine, an amino acid your body uses to build proteins and support various metabolic processes. The capsule itself is made from vegetable material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-Methionine has possibly effective evidence for reducing the risk of neural tube birth defects. For acetaminophen poisoning, hay fever, asthma, and colorectal cancer, the evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether it works or doesn't.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Methionine from food is well tolerated. When taken as a high-dose supplement, though, it may cause dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure (hypotension), irritability, vomiting, headache, and other effects.
Rare serious side effects include brain swelling (cerebral edema) and liver-related brain dysfunction (hepatic encephalopathy). High-dose methionine (75–100 mg/kg daily) may also raise homocysteine, a risk factor for heart and blood vessel disease, though one study in people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease history did not show this effect.
During pregnancy, food amounts are expected to be fine, but supplement doses have not been proven safe. For breastfeeding, the safety of supplement doses is not well studied.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you at this time.

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Methionine may be worth considering if you're interested in supporting neural tube health during pregnancy — though talk with your doctor about whether supplementing is right for you. Because high doses can lower blood pressure and raise homocysteine levels, anyone with blood pressure concerns or heart disease history should check with their pharmacist or doctor first.
