Lactobacillus acidophilus
Description:Lactobacillus acidophilus is a type of lactic acid-producing bacteria that is commonly found in the human gut, as well as in other areas of the body such as the mouth and vagina. L. acidophilus can also be found in fermented foods such as yogurt and kefir. It is commonly utilized in probiotic dietary supplements as it is considered a "friendly" or "beneficial" bacteria because it helps to maintain the balance of microorganisms in the body, and is purported to help improve digestion and boost the immune system. Some studies have suggested that L. acidophilus may also have a role in preventing and treating certain conditions such as diarrhea, vaginal yeast infections, and eczema.

Bacillus coagulans
Description:Bacillus coagulans, also known as Weizmannia coagulans or Lactobacillus sporogenes, is a spore-forming, lactic acid-producing, Gram-positive bacterium used as a probiotic. Bacillus coagulans has shown benefits for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Its spores are stable in stomach acid and reach the small intestine, where they germinate and multiply, with around 85% reaching their destination. The bacterium is excreted via feces, with spores detectable up to 7 days post-administration. Mechanistically, Bacillus coagulans exhibits antibacterial effects through the production of coagulin, lactic acid, and lactosporin, reducing pathogenic bacteria colonization. It also demonstrates antifungal properties and anti-inflammatory effects, potentially reducing the growth of pathogenic bacteria and decreasing the production of lipopolysaccharides. Bacillus coagulans may stimulate immune response, as evidenced by increased CD4+ T cells in adults with HIV-1 infection and modulation of inflammatory cytokines in schoolchildren. These properties categorize Bacillus coagulans as an immunomodulator, immunostimulant, and probiotic, with potential therapeutic applications in promoting digestive health and immune function.

Saccharomyces boulardii
Description:Saccharomyces boulardii is a type of yeast that is commonly used as a probiotic supplement. It is a non-pathogenic, or non-harmful, strain of yeast that is similar to the yeast used to make bread and beer. S. boulardii is believed to have a number of potential health benefits, including helping to prevent and treat diarrhea, improving gut health, and boosting the immune system. It is available in a variety of forms, including capsules, tablets, and powders, and can be found in many health food stores and online.

Jerusalem Artichoke
Description:Artichoke (Cynara scolymus) is a perennial plant native to the Mediterranean region that is known for its edible flower buds. Artichokes are a good source of fiber, vitamin C, and other nutrients. Artichoke has a history of use in traditional medicine, and studies show it may have a mild cholesterol-lowering effect and has also been used for gastrointestinal problems, such as heartburn and constipation. Although several parts of the artichoke have been used medicinally, for its use in dietary supplements, a standardized leaf extract is often used.

It is a perennial plant that belongs to the daisy family and has blue, purple, or pink flowers that bloom in the summer. Chicory root is often used as a coffee substitute and in traditional medicine. Chicory root is purported to have diuretic, laxative, and digestive properties and has been traditionally used to treat constipation, indigestion, and liver and gallbladder disorders. Chicory root is also thought to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and has been used to improve skin health and treat skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Chicory root is a source of inulin (not to be confused with insulin), a type of soluble fiber that is used as a sweetener and to improve digestive health.
