HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Abundant Qi Teapills by Plum Flower
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Abundant Qi Teapills contains two active ingredients: a proprietary extract blend and single extracts of Codonopsis pilosula root and Astragalus membranaceus root. In traditional use, codonopsis is valued as a tonic herb, while astragalus is used to support overall wellness.
The pill also contains inactive ingredients—microcrystalline cellulose, hydrated magnesium silicate, maltose, and China wax—that help bind and form the tablet.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for both codonopsis and astragalus for specific conditions isn't yet established in the data we hold. The product names respiratory tract infections and asthma among traditional uses, but we don't have reliable clinical trial data to confirm whether it works for those purposes.
If you're considering it for a particular health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the research does and doesn't support.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Codonopsis is generally well tolerated in the amounts traditionally used as a food ingredient, though high-quality safety studies are limited. At very high doses—30 to 60 grams—it's been linked to chest pain, heart rhythm problems, throat pain, and loss of voice.
Allergic reactions including severe anaphylaxis have been reported in rare cases. Astragalus is also generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults, but safety data are sparse.
It's been associated with dizziness and, when given intravenously, rash and itching, though a direct causal link hasn't always been confirmed. Neither ingredient should be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as there isn't enough reliable safety information.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before starting if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel), antidiabetes medications (metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin), immunosuppressants, lithium, or abiraterone. These are the main medication types with documented moderate-severity interactions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with general wellness in traditional herbalism, but the evidence for specific conditions is incomplete. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, immunosuppressants, lithium, or abiraterone, check with your pharmacist first.
Avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Abundant Qi Teapills by Plum Flower Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Abundant Qi Teapills by Plum Flower contains two active extracts, and one of them—Codonopsis pilosula root—has documented moderate-severity interactions with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs.
There's a small clinical study showing it can inhibit platelet clumping, so if you take warfarin, aspirin, or other anticoagulants or antiplatelet medications, you'll want to flag this with your pharmacist before starting.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both ingredients also interact with antidiabetes drugs. Codonopsis and astragalus may each lower blood sugar, so combining either with insulin or oral diabetes medications could raise your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Astragalus alone can interact with immunosuppressants (like those taken after transplant) and lithium, a mood stabilizer—it may reduce how well immunosuppressive drugs work and raise lithium levels. Codonopsis may also reduce how well abiraterone (a prostate cancer drug) works in your body.
Altogether, these interactions span 325 individual medications. Before you take this product, use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions.

For each ingredient in Abundant Qi Teapills with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Codonopsis pilosula Root Extract
Abiraterone (Zytiga)
Theoretically, taking codonopsis root with abiraterone might reduce the levels and therapeutic effects of abiraterone.
Animal research in rats shows that intragastric administration of codonopsis root along with abiraterone every 2 days for 2 weeks seems to increase the clearance of abiraterone and reduce the overall exposure and time to maximum concentration. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, codonopsis liquor might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
A small clinical study in adults with coronary heart disease shows that consuming Codonopsis pilosula liquor for 4 weeks inhibits platelet aggregation but does not affect tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) or plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI).
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, codonopsis might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory and animal research suggest that codonopsis has antidiabetic effects.
Astragalus membranaceus Root Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking astragalus with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research in humans shows that astragalus might have hypoglycemic effects. Theoretically, taking astragalus, especially in combination with other hypoglycemic agents, might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Cyclophosphamide
Theoretically, astragalus might interfere with cyclophosphamide therapy.
Evidence regarding the effect of astragalus on immunosuppression caused by cyclophosphamide is conflicting. Some animal research suggests that astragalus reverses cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression. However, other animal research shows no effect.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, astragalus might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Astragalus seems to stimulate immune function. Theoretically, taking astragalus might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
Lithium
Theoretically, astragalus might increase levels and adverse effects of lithium.
Animal research suggests that astragalus has diuretic properties. Theoretically, due to this diuretic effect, astragalus might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
