What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: agar agar at 450 mg per capsule. Agar is a natural thickener derived from seaweed; it absorbs water and forms a gel in your digestive tract.
The capsule also contains gelatin and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence on agar for diabetes, obesity, and neonatal jaundice is insufficient — we don't hold reliable data showing it works for these uses. That doesn't mean it doesn't; it means the studies we have access to don't meet the standard to call it proven.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Agar is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement doses come with real cautions. You must take it with plenty of water; without enough fluid, it can form blockages (phytobezoars) or obstruct your esophagus or bowel — these are rare but serious.
A thorough safety review hasn't been done on supplement-level doses, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting if you have any digestive concerns. Pregnancy and lactation safety data isn't on file for agar supplements — discuss this with your healthcare provider if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Before taking this product, check any oral medications you're on — agar may reduce how well they're absorbed. Mineral supplements are also a concern.
Use the medication checker on this page with your exact drugs, and separate this product from your medications and supplements by at least two hours if your pharmacist approves.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Agar agar may be worth considering if you're looking for a fiber supplement, but it's not proven to work for diabetes or obesity in our data. The main thing to know: it can block how your body absorbs medications and minerals, and it needs a lot of water to stay safe.
Talk to your pharmacist before you start, especially if you're on any regular medications or supplements.

Agar Agar 450 mg by TerraVita Premium Collection Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita Premium Collection's Agar Agar can interfere with how your body absorbs oral medications and nutrients.
Because agar forms a thick gel in your digestive system, it may slow or block the absorption of drugs and minerals you need. Animal studies show that high-dose agar — in the range of 5% to 10% of diet — noticeably reduced how well the body took in nutrients, and at 10%, it cut absorption of all minerals tested.
The effect on medication absorption is theoretical but worth taking seriously.

Agar Agar
Oral Drugs
Agar forms a thick gel, which may disrupt the absorption of nutrients and medications. Animal research suggests that consuming a diet consisting of 5% to 10% agar alters the absorption of nutrients from the diet. In one study, consuming a diet composed of 10% agar reduced the absorption of all evaluated minerals. Theoretically, agar may also impair the absorption of oral drugs.
