Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 5 of its 5 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Baby BioFlora is a powder with five active ingredients: Fructooligosaccharides (FOS, a prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial gut bacteria), two strains of Lactobacillus (L. salivarius CUL-61 and L. paracasei CUL-8), two strains of Bifidobacterium, and Galactooligosaccharides (another prebiotic). Together, these are meant to support a healthy gut microbiome in infants.

The product contains no inactive fillers — the inactive ingredients listed are duplicates of the active probiotics and prebiotics themselves.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Fructo-oligosaccharides (fos)'s own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: digestive health and gut bacteria for babies.
  • We looked for evidence on: Constipation, Travelers' diarrhea, Infant digestive health, Microbiome balance.
  • The closest evidence on file: Fructo-oligosaccharides (fos) is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Constipation (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Fructo-oligosaccharides (fos) is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Travelers' diarrhea.

The evidence for FOS is not established in the data we hold — we rate it insufficient reliable evidence for osteoporosis, constipation, diabetes, travelers' diarrhea, and high cholesterol. We don't have effectiveness ratings on file for the specific probiotic strains in this formula, so we can't tell you how strong the support is for using them in baby gut health.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Fructooligosaccharides are generally well tolerated, especially in food amounts, but supplement-level doses haven't been studied much — talk with your child's doctor before starting. The most common side effects are gas, bloating, flatulence, and abdominal pain, especially at higher doses.

A review of eight small trials found that FOS doses between 2.5 and 15 grams daily didn't increase these symptoms more than placebo when used for up to eight weeks. We have no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for any ingredient in this product — ask your pediatrician or pharmacist for guidance before use.

Baby BioFlora by BioCare: Common Questions

Does Baby BioFlora by BioCare interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Baby BioFlora. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Baby BioFlora contains 5 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What are prebiotics and probiotics, and what's the difference?
Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria (the Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains in this powder). Prebiotics are fibers like FOS and galactooligosaccharides that feed those good bacteria, helping them grow in your baby's gut.
Will this cause my baby gas or bloating?
FOS can cause gas, bloating, and abdominal pain, especially at higher doses. But a review of clinical trials found that doses between 2.5 and 15 grams daily for up to eight weeks didn't increase these symptoms more than placebo. Start with a small amount and watch how your baby responds.
Is it safe to use this powder while I'm breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for any ingredient in this product during breastfeeding. Ask your pediatrician or pharmacist — they can give you personalized advice for your situation.
Is there evidence this actually works for baby digestion?
The evidence for FOS isn't established in our data, so we can't tell you how strong the science is. We also don't have effectiveness ratings for the specific probiotic strains. Your pediatrician is the best source for whether this product is right for your baby.
Does this powder have any fillers or other ingredients?
No — it's just the five active ingredients (the prebiotics and probiotics). There are no inactive fillers.
