Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains two active ingredients: benfotiamine (a fat-soluble form of thiamine, or vitamin B1) and L-leucine (an amino acid your body uses to build and repair muscle). The capsule itself is made from modified cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, and silicon dioxide — standard inactive ingredients that help form and stabilize the capsule.

Does it work?

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: glucose metabolism and nerve health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Diabetic neuropathy, Peripheral neuropathy, Advanced glycation end products (AGEs), Glucose control.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Benfotiamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Diabetic neuropathy (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Benfotiamine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Peripheral neuropathy.

Benfotiamine is possibly effective for diabetic nerve pain (neuropathy). For other conditions in our data — diabetic kidney damage, alcohol use disorder, Alzheimer disease, and general nerve pain — either the evidence is insufficient to rate it or it's rated possibly ineffective.

We hold no effectiveness data for L-leucine in this product's context.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Benfotiamine is generally well tolerated in the studies we reviewed, though long-term safety isn't fully established. In a six-week trial at higher doses (300–600 mg daily), a small number of participants reported allergic skin reactions or mild stomach discomfort, but these rates were no higher than placebo.

There isn't enough safety information to know whether benfotiamine is safe during pregnancy, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're pregnant. Safety while breastfeeding hasn't been well studied either, so caution is advised if you're nursing.

Formula

Benfotiamine (S-benzoylthiamine-O-monophosphate) is a derivative of thiamin, belonging to the family of compounds known as "allthiamines." Benfotiamine is fat-soluble and more bioavailable and physiologically active than thiamin. Benfotiamine raises the blood level of thiamin pyrophosphate (TPP), the biologically active co-enzyme of thiamin, and stimulates transketolase, a cellular enzyme essential for maintenance of normal glucose metabolic pathways.
