BergaCor Plus contains two active ingredients. Amla extract comes from Indian gooseberries and is included for its possible effects on reflux (GERD) and cholesterol levels.
Bergamot extract is the second active ingredient, used for its possibly effective role in managing high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). The product also includes inactive ingredients—fillers and binders like microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, and medium chain triglyceride—to form the tablet.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For GERD reflux symptoms, amla extract is rated possibly effective based on the evidence we have. For cholesterol and high lipid levels, bergamot extract is also rated possibly effective.
Amla extract is possibly effective for high cholesterol as well. Beyond those uses, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate amla for hair loss or bergamot for fatty liver disease, autism spectrum disorder, or mental alertness—though bergamot is rated possibly ineffective for mental alertness.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Amla extract is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement safety at higher doses is less well studied. The safety data advises against use during breastfeeding due to too little reliable information.
For bergamot extract, the oral form appears generally well tolerated short-term, but the essential oil can be toxic if swallowed. The safety data advises against bergamot supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there isn't enough safety information.
In clinical trials, amla has been associated with upset stomach or indigestion in a small number of participants, and one person reported fatigue and three reported muscle or joint pain. Bergamot extract was linked to one case of heartburn.
Topical bergamot can cause blisters, redness, skin lesions, and photosensitivity, especially in fair-skinned people—frequent contact with the peel or oil is a particular concern.

Formula
BergaCor Plus combines the antioxidant activity of bergamot (Citrus bergamia) with the tonifying superfruit of amla (Phyllanthus emblica). Bergamot is used traditionally in Italy to support cardiovascular wellness. Amla is revered in Ayurveda for its role in cardiovascular health, and this use has been validated in modern human clinical trials. Research suggests that the lipid- and glucose-balancing flavonoids of bergamot and amla help maintain healthy cholesterol levels already within normal range and support healthy blood glucose metabolism.

BergaCor Plus by XYMOGEN contains two active ingredients—Amla extract and bergamot extract—and both have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern involves blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs. Amla extract may increase bleeding risk when combined with these medications; clinical research shows it reduces platelet aggregation (clumping) by 24% to 36% and increases bleeding time.
The same Moderate-severity risk applies to aspirin and clopidogrel (Plavix) specifically.

Both ingredients also interact with diabetes medications. Amla extract and bergamot extract may each lower blood sugar on their own, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you take antidiabetes drugs.
Dose adjustments to your diabetes medication might be needed.
One additional concern: bergamot extract contains a compound called bergapten that can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. If you take photosensitizing drugs (medications that increase sun sensitivity), using this product may increase that side effect risk.

Bergamot extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking bergamot with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that bergamot juice has hypoglycemic effects.
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, topical bergamot essential oil might increase the risk of side effects when used along with photosensitizing drugs.
Bergamot contains bergapten, which has photosensitizing effects.
Amla Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg as a single dose or twice daily for 10 days reduces platelet aggregation by about 24% to 36%, increases bleeding time by about 3.8-5.9 seconds, and increases clotting time by about 9.8-12.7 seconds when compared to baseline. However, taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg along with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg, as a single dose or for 10 days, does not significantly reduce platelet aggregation or increase bleeding time or clotting time when compared with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg alone. Until more is known, use caution when taking Indian gooseberry in combination with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking Indian gooseberry with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry fruit or fruit extract alone or in conjunction with antidiabetes medications can lower blood glucose levels. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Aspirin
Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with aspirin; however, research is conflicting.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg as a single dose or twice daily for 10 days reduces platelet aggregation by about 24% to 36%, increases bleeding time by about 3.8-5.9 seconds, and increases clotting time by about 9.8-12.7 seconds when compared to baseline. However, taking a single dose of Indian gooseberry 500 mg along with ecosprin 75 mg, or taking a combination of Indian gooseberry 500 mg twice daily plus ecosprin 75 mg once daily for 10 days, does not significantly reduce platelet aggregation or increase bleeding time or clotting time when compared with ecosprin 75 mg alone.
