Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: 750 mg of CarnoSyn, which is beta-alanine, an amino acid your body uses to build carnosine, a compound that may play a role in muscle and nerve function. The capsule also holds inactive ingredients — rice flour, hypromellose (a plant-based capsule material), stearic acid, and ascorbyl palmitate — that serve as fillers and binders.

Does it work?

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: endurance and muscle fatigue during exercise.
  • We looked for evidence on: Athletic performance, Physical performance, Exercise-induced muscle breakdown, muscular endurance, high-intensity exercise capacity, carnosine synthesis.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Beta-alanine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Athletic performance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Beta-alanine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Physical performance.
  • Also on file: Beta-alanine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Exercise-induced muscle breakdown.

Beta-alanine is possibly effective for athletic performance and physical performance, meaning there's reasonable evidence it may help, though the research isn't definitive. For age-related cognitive decline, cognitive function, COPD, and menopausal symptoms, the evidence we hold isn't established — there's either too little data or the quality isn't sufficient to make a claim either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but it commonly causes a harmless tingling sensation (paresthesia) and flushing, usually starting on the scalp within 20 minutes and lasting about an hour. The tingling is dose-dependent: very mild at lower doses and more noticeable at higher ones.

The product hasn't been studied for long-term use at high doses. There isn't enough safety information during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so the data advises against it in both.

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This is for people looking to support athletic or physical performance with an amino acid that's been studied in that context. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any medications, talk with your own doctor or pharmacist first.

Expect the tingling — it's normal and harmless, but it's worth knowing it's coming.

Formula

Beta-Alanine is a non-essential amino acid that is used by muscle cells to synthesize carnosine. Carnosine is a dipeptide (Beta-Alanine plus Histidine) that functions as a buffer for the hydrogen ions (acid) produced during strenuous exercise, thus helping to maintain optimum muscular pH. NOW Sports uses CarnoSyn, a patented form of Beta-Alanine that has been clinically tested and shown to increase muscle carnosine content, allowing muscles to work harder and longer during intense exercise. NOW Sports Beta-Alanine is backed by scientific research demonstrating that CarnoSyn supplementation results in delayed muscle fatigue and rapid recovery time, thereby helping you attain your strength and endurance training goals.

Beta Alanine 750 mg by NOW Sports: Common Questions

Does Beta Alanine 750 mg by NOW Sports interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Beta Alanine 750 mg. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Beta Alanine 750 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What's that tingling I might feel?
That's paresthesia — a pins-and-needles sensation — and it's a known harmless side effect of beta-alanine. It usually starts on your scalp within 20 minutes, spreads across your body, and fades in about an hour. How strong it is depends on your dose; lower doses cause milder or no tingling at all.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety information, so the data advises against it during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Talk with your own doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you in either situation.
Will this help me think better or remember more?
The evidence we hold for cognitive function, age-related cognitive decline, and memory isn't established — there's either too little research or it's not strong enough to say. Beta-alanine's supported use is for athletic and physical performance.
How often can I take this?
In studies, beta-alanine has been given as frequently as 8 times per day. Follow the label on your bottle or talk with your pharmacist about the dosing schedule that fits your goals.
Is this safe to use long-term?
Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but it hasn't been studied for long-term use at high doses. If you're thinking about taking it regularly for months or longer, check with your own pharmacist or doctor.
