What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: beta-alanine, a naturally occurring amino acid. Beta-alanine is your body's building block for carnosine, a compound that buffers lactic acid in muscles during intense exercise.
There are no other inactive ingredients — it's pure powder.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Beta-alanine is possibly effective for athletic performance and physical performance, based on the evidence we hold. For other uses — age-related cognitive decline, cognitive function, COPD, and menopausal symptoms — we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works.
If you're considering it for athletic gains, talk with your doctor or coach about whether it fits your training goals.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Beta-alanine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but it has one very common side effect: a harmless tingling or pins-and-needles feeling (paresthesia) and skin flushing. This usually starts on your scalp within 20 minutes, spreads to most of your body, and lasts about an hour.
How strong it is depends on your dose — at lower doses, only about a quarter of people feel it, and even then it's mild; at higher doses it becomes more noticeable. The data we have doesn't cover long-term use of high doses, so there's a gap in what we know about safety there.
Because there isn't enough safety information, the data advises against use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented for beta-alanine in our data. That said, run your medications through the checker on this page or talk with your pharmacist before you begin, just to confirm nothing in your regimen changes how this product works or vice versa.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Beta-Alanine Unflavored may help if you're an athlete or doing intense training and want to support physical performance. Be ready for the tingling and flushing — it's harmless but noticeable, especially at higher doses.
