Upcoming Generic Drug Launches by Month
Every expected first generic for the next 18 months. Every drug opens its own launch page with the patents, approvals and prices behind its month.
68 drugs could get a first generic in the next 6 monthsOct 2026 to Mar 2027
Tap any drug for its launch page. Tap or hover a column name for what it means.
What each reason means
- Patent expires
- A patent that protects the brand runs out. After that, approved generics can be sold.
- Settlement between companies
- The brand company and a generic maker settled their patent fight and agreed on when a generic can launch.
- Settlement expected
- The patent fight is likely to end in an agreement that sets the launch. The terms are not public yet.
- FDA exclusivity ends
- FDA gives new drugs a protected period, for example for a rare-disease use. It ends then.
- Court hold ends
- When a generic maker challenges a patent, FDA must wait up to 30 months before approving it. That wait ends then.
- Awaiting FDA approval
- The patents are not the problem. A generic still needs FDA sign-off, and that is when it is expected.
- Launch expected
- A generic maker is expected to launch around then.
- Not yet clear
- The event that will open the door is not settled yet. Each row shows the public record behind it: how many makers have filed with FDA and any patent challenge under way.

This list shows the next 18 months and a few drugs with no date yet. Every other drug on the schedule is in the A to Z list below.
Every Drug on the Schedule, A to Z
Every brand-name drug we follow, with the month or window its first generic is expected. Pick a letter; each drug opens its own launch page, and a drug that has left the schedule keeps its page. Not seeing yours? Some drugs are years away from a generic, and a few are too small to track: ask a pharmacist and we will look it up.

How We Build Our Data
Every date on the tracker comes from public records, read together. A patent list alone gives the date many websites show, but the first generic often arrives sooner, because of a settlement or a court ruling. We weigh all of it and update the schedule every month. We give a month, not an exact day: even when the legal date is known, it takes days to weeks for a new generic to reach pharmacies.
- FDA Orange BookThe FDA’s list of the patents and other protections on each brand-name drug, and the date each one ends. Many websites show the last of these dates. The first generic often arrives sooner.
- Drugs@FDAThe FDA’s record of every drug it has approved, including generics it has cleared that cannot be sold yet. When a generic is already approved, it can launch as soon as the patents allow.
- FDA Paragraph IV listThe FDA’s list of brand-name drugs whose patents a generic company has challenged, and when. The first company to challenge can earn a six-month head start on other generic companies.
- Federal court recordsPatent lawsuits between brand-name and generic drug companies, and what the judges decided.A court decision can let a generic launch early or push the date back.
- Company announcements and securities filingsWhat drug companies say publicly: settlement dates and launch plans. Many dates on the tracker come from settlements the companies announced; about half follow the end of a patent.
- FDA NDC Directory and NADACWhich versions of a drug are for sale, who makes them, and what pharmacies pay for them.Once a generic launches, this is where its real price shows up.
How We Estimate the Month
- We start with the patents. The day the last one ends is the date many websites show, and usually the longest a generic would have to wait.
- We check for patent challenges. When a generic company challenges a patent, the brand usually sues, and the FDA has to wait up to 30 months before approving the generic.
- We look for a settlement or a court ruling. Most of these fights end with the two companies agreeing on a launch date, or with a judge deciding the case.
- We see who is ready to launch. Generics the FDA has already approved, and how many companies have applied, tell us how many could launch at once. The more companies, the lower the price tends to fall.
- We rate how sure we are. A date from a public settlement is very likely. A date that depends on a court case still going on is a toss-up.
Our month is only an estimate based on available information. A brand can win a court case and push the date back, settle for an earlier date, or sell its own lower-cost copy (an “authorized generic”). Every drug’s page keeps a log of each change we see.
Updated October 9, 2026. Information, not medical advice: never stop or switch a drug without talking to your prescriber or pharmacist.
Generic Drug Questions People Ask
Which drugs are going generic soon?
The next brand-name drugs expected to get a first generic are Adasuve (October 2026), Synribo (October 2026), Horizant (November 2026), Trintellix (December 2026) and Signifor (December 2026). The list on this page shows every drug due in the next 6 months, month by month, and the Show buttons look further ahead. The A to Z list names every drug on the schedule with its expected month or window, and each drug opens its own page with the patents, approvals and prices behind its month.
Will the generic cost less right away?
Usually, but how much depends on how many companies launch. FDA’s own analysis of past launches found that one generic maker brought prices about 39% under the brand, two about 54%, four about 79%, and six or more over 95%. Big sellers draw more makers, which is why every row shows the brand’s yearly sales and how many companies have filed (the Price competition column).
Why do other websites show a different date?
Many list the day the last patent expires. Generics often arrive earlier than that, through settlements or successful patent challenges, and sometimes later, when nobody is ready to launch. Each drug’s page shows its last patent beside the month we expect, so you can see the gap.
Why only a month and not a day?
Because a day would promise more than anyone knows. Legal dates move, and even when they hold, the first generic reaches pharmacy shelves days to weeks later. The month is the honest answer, and “Coming soon” means it is within about three months.
Is a generic really the same as the brand?
Yes in the ways that matter: the same active ingredient, strength and form, and proof that it reaches your blood the same way. Inactive ingredients can differ, which is why a generic may look or taste different.
My drug is not here. Will it ever go generic?
Probably, but it may be many years away, or it may be a biologic, which gets a “biosimilar” instead of a generic. Ask us and a pharmacist will check the records for you.
