The capsule itself is made from gelatin, and the formula includes calcium carbonate, magnesium stearate, and silica as inactive ingredients to hold everything together and keep it stable.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Beta-sitosterol is likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — the noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland that can make urination difficult. It's possibly effective for familial hypercholesterolemia (inherited high cholesterol) and coronary heart disease (CHD) — meaning the evidence suggests it may help, but we'd like more studies to be confident.
How safe is it?

Beta-sitosterol is generally well tolerated in adults when used short-term, though you should check with your healthcare provider before starting. The most common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, gas, indigestion, and nausea.
A small number of people have reported reduced appetite, and there is one case report of acute pancreatitis in a man who started it, though his symptoms stopped when he quit. Beta-sitosterol can worsen acne in some people.
