Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin that plays a role in energy metabolism and the health of your hair, skin, and nails. Each softgel provides 10,000 micrograms (mcg) of biotin.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—soybean oil, gelatin, vegetable glycerin, yellow beeswax, and titanium dioxide—that help deliver the biotin.
Does it work?
Not established
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency, which can happen if you're not getting enough from food or have a condition that interferes with absorption. For other uses—multiple sclerosis (MS), seborrheic dermatitis (a flaky skin condition), or alopecia areata (patchy hair loss)—the evidence is either possibly ineffective or too thin to rate.
If you're considering this for hair, skin, or nails beyond a documented deficiency, talk it over with your doctor to see if the research supports it for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body excretes excess amounts in urine. At this dose (10,000 mcg), mild diarrhea has been rarely reported.
There's one isolated case report of a woman who developed a serious inflammatory condition after taking 10 mg biotin daily for 2 months alongside other supplements and a heart medication, but no similar cases have been documented since, and it's unclear whether biotin was responsible. Because this is a high-dose supplement, check with your doctor before starting it.
During pregnancy and lactation, amounts from food and standard prenatal vitamins are considered likely safe, but discuss high-dose products with your doctor first.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented for biotin in our data. That said, check your specific medications with the tool on this page before you start, and loop in your own pharmacist if you have questions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have a biotin deficiency, this product is a straightforward way to correct it. If you're taking it for hair, skin, or nails without a documented deficiency, the evidence doesn't clearly support that use.
Either way, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—especially since this is a high dose—to make sure it fits your needs.
