What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin your body needs to convert food into energy and maintain healthy skin, hair, and nails. You're getting 5,000 micrograms per tablet.
The rest of the tablet is made up of inactive ingredients—microcrystalline cellulose (a filler), stearic acid, and magnesium stearate (a lubricant)—that hold the tablet together and help it dissolve.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency, so if you've been diagnosed with low biotin, this supplement is a solid choice. For other uses—like hair loss (alopecia areata), multiple sclerosis, or seborrheic dermatitis—the evidence either isn't there yet or suggests it probably won't help.
We don't have reliable data to rate biotin for alopecia areata one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at higher doses, because your body flushes out what it doesn't use through your urine. In trials, the only side effect reported was mild diarrhea, and that's rare.
One case report from France described a woman who developed inflammation around her heart and lungs after taking high-dose biotin along with another supplement and a prescription medication—but it's unclear whether biotin was the cause, and no similar cases have been reported since. Normal amounts from food and standard prenatal vitamins are fine.
If you're thinking about taking high-dose biotin supplements, talk with your doctor first to make sure it's right for you.

If you take any prescription or over-the-counter medications, check them against the search tool on this page, and chat with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure.
