Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin at 10,000 mcg per tablet. Biotin plays a role in hair, skin, and nail health, and in how your body breaks down fats and carbohydrates.

The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, modified cellulose gum, natural black cherry and peach flavors, magnesium stearate, citric acid, and stevia leaf extract — which help form and flavor the fast-melt tablet.

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Hair and skin support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Biotin deficiency, Brittle nails, Seborrheic dermatitis, Hair loss, Nail health, Skin integrity.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Biotin is rated "Likely Effective" for Biotin deficiency (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Biotin is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Seborrheic dermatitis.
  • Also on file: Biotin is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Brittle nails.

Biotin is likely effective for treating biotin deficiency itself. For other uses — multiple sclerosis, seborrheic dermatitis (a scaly skin condition), and alopecia areata (patchy hair loss) — the evidence we have rates biotin as possibly ineffective or shows insufficient reliable evidence.

If you're considering this product for one of those conditions, talk it over with your doctor to weigh what we know so far.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body removes what it doesn't use through urine. The main caution: high-dose biotin supplements warrant a conversation with your doctor beforehand — normal dietary amounts and those in prenatal vitamins are fine, but this 10,000 mcg dose is well above everyday intake.

In rare cases, high-dose biotin has been linked to mild diarrhea; one older case report described a possible severe reaction after taking both biotin and pantothenic acid together, though a direct link wasn't clear.

Biotin Fast Melt 10,000 mcg by Source Naturals: Common Questions

Does Biotin Fast Melt 10,000 mcg by Source Naturals interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Biotin Fast Melt 10,000 mcg. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Biotin Fast Melt 10,000 mcg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Biotin is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation. Normal amounts from food and prenatal vitamins are fine, but since this is a high-dose supplement (10,000 mcg), talk with your doctor before starting — they can advise what's right for your situation.
Will this help my hair, skin, or nails grow?
Biotin is likely effective for treating actual biotin deficiency. For hair growth, skin condition, or nail strength in people without a deficiency, the evidence we have doesn't support it. If you're interested in it for those reasons, discuss your goals with your doctor.
What are the side effects?
Biotin is generally well tolerated. Rarely, high doses have been linked to mild diarrhea. One older case report described a severe reaction in someone taking biotin alongside other supplements, though it's unclear what caused it. Most people don't experience side effects.
Is this safe to take at this dose?
Biotin at high doses is generally considered safe because excess is removed in urine. However, because this product is 10,000 mcg — well above typical daily intake — check with your doctor or pharmacist first to confirm it's appropriate for you.
What's biotin used for in the body?
Biotin is a B vitamin that helps your body break down and use fats and carbohydrates. It's also involved in hair, skin, and nail health, which is why you see it in many beauty and wellness supplements.
