Thyme is generally well tolerated when used in food and medicinally, though the concentrated essential oil can be toxic if swallowed—this liquid extract isn't the essential oil, but higher doses should be approved by your doctor first. English ivy leaf extract in standardized form is generally well tolerated, but the raw plant is toxic.

In vitro evidence suggests that thyme essential oil and specific essential oil constituents like thymohydroquinone and carvacrol can inhibit acetylcholinesterase (AChE). However, this effect has not been observed in humans.
