What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Ceylon cinnamon powder at 1,200 mg per capsule. The other ingredients — tapioca starch and purified water — are inert fillers and capsule material that help deliver the cinnamon.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for cassia cinnamon isn't established for the conditions we checked — amenorrhea, angina, common cold, diabetes, diarrhea, and high cholesterol all show insufficient reliable evidence in our data. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the studies so far haven't been strong enough to draw firm conclusions.
If you're considering this for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about what the current research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Ceylon cinnamon (cassia cinnamon) is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but this supplement dose — 1,200 mg — is much higher. The main safety concern is coumarin, a compound in cassia cinnamon that can harm the liver with long-term use at high doses.
In clinical trials, doses of 360 mg to 12 grams daily for up to 3 months didn't significantly raise liver enzymes, but coumarin at very high intakes (50–7,000 mg daily) can cause liver damage that reverses when you stop. In rare cases, people have reported a rash or allergic skin reactions to cinnamon.
One patient had a low-blood-sugar seizure (hypoglycemic seizure) while taking 1 gram of cassia cinnamon daily, though it's unclear if the cinnamon caused it. During pregnancy, food amounts of cinnamon are likely fine, but avoid medicinal or high-dose supplement amounts — there isn't enough data.
Similarly, during breastfeeding, food amounts are probably okay, but concentrated supplement doses aren't well studied.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your exact medications against two categories before taking this product: diabetes drugs (because cinnamon may lower blood sugar further), and medications that stress the liver. If you're on any drug that your pharmacist has flagged as hard on your liver, mention this supplement — the dose here is relatively high.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're taking diabetes medications or drugs that can stress your liver, check with your pharmacist before starting this supplement — the dose is substantial and interactions are documented. For everyone else, the main risk is liver damage from long-term high-dose use, which is uncommon but possible.
Your liver and blood sugar are worth a quick conversation with your pharmacist.

Ceylon Cinnamon 1,200 mg by Spring Valley Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Spring Valley's Ceylon Cinnamon contains cassia cinnamon powder, which does interact with medications in two main categories.
The most serious concern is with drugs that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) — a Moderate severity interaction. Large doses of cassia cinnamon might add to the liver burden when you're already taking a medication that can harm liver function, though this is mainly a theoretical concern based on the cinnamon's coumarin content.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second Moderate interaction is with diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs). Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, so if you're on a diabetes drug, the combination could lower your blood sugar too far.
Your doctor might need to adjust your diabetes medication dose if you start taking this supplement regularly.
Altogether, these interactions span 425 individual medications. Because the product's dose (1,200 mg per capsule) is on the higher end of amounts used in studies, the hepatotoxicity concern — while mostly theoretical in humans — is worth taking seriously, especially if you have liver problems or take medications that already stress your liver.
Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your prescriptions fall into these categories.

For each ingredient in Ceylon Cinnamon 1,200 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Ceylon Cinnamon, Powder
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
