Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Cassia Cinnamon product and its label doesn't state a use — see Cassia Cinnamon's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence doesn't support using cassia cinnamon for any of the purposes tested — amenorrhea, angina, common cold, diabetes, diarrhea, or high cholesterol. For all of these, the data we hold rates the evidence as insufficient to know whether it actually works.

If you're thinking about this supplement for one of those reasons, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about what the science can actually tell you.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Cassia cinnamon is generally well tolerated in food amounts. At the supplement doses in this product, the main safety concern is coumarin, a compound it contains that can harm your liver if you take large amounts over a long time.

The adverse effects reported in trials are rare — a rash in one person and a low blood sugar seizure in another — but they happened. Food amounts are likely fine, but medicinal or high-dose supplement amounts should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited safety data.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Cassia Cinnamon.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 443 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, double-check medications that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) — cassia cinnamon at these doses may add to that risk. Also check any diabetes medications, since cassia cinnamon may lower blood sugar and could cause you to run too low.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Hepatotoxic Drugs

Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.

Ceylon Cinnamon 1800 mg by Built By Nature: Common Questions

Does Ceylon Cinnamon 1800 mg by Built By Nature interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Ceylon Cinnamon 1800 mg has a known interaction with 442 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Ceylon Cinnamon 1800 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is this safe to take while I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
Food amounts of cinnamon are likely fine, but the safety data for medicinal or high-dose supplement amounts like this isn't strong enough to say either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
What is coumarin, and should I worry about it?
Coumarin is a compound naturally found in cassia cinnamon. At very high doses over a long time, it can harm your liver. The dose in this product is on the higher end of what's been studied, so if you have liver disease or take medications that affect your liver, that's something to talk through with your pharmacist.
Can this help with diabetes?
The evidence we have isn't strong enough to say whether it actually works for blood sugar control. What we do know is that it may lower blood sugar, which means it could combine with your diabetes medications in ways your doctor needs to manage. Don't use this to replace your medication — talk with your doctor first.
What side effects were reported in studies?
A rash was reported in one person taking 1 gram daily, and one person had a low blood sugar episode. These are rare, but they did happen. If you have a known allergy to cinnamon or cinnamic alcohol, avoid this product.
Why does this product have only one ingredient?
It's a straightforward supplement — just cassia cinnamon. The capsule itself contains pullulan, which is an inactive ingredient that holds the capsule together.
What other ingredients are in the capsule?
Just pullulan, which is the material the capsule is made from. There are no other fillers or binders.
