What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 12 active ingredients.

This product has 12 active digestive enzymes. Protease breaks down proteins; lipase handles fats; lactase breaks down milk sugar (lactose).

The others — amylase, cellulase, xylanase, maltase, glucoamylase, invertase, pectinase, alpha galactosidase, and L-leucine — support breakdown of different carbohydrates and plant fiber. The tablet also contains inactive ingredients like tapioca dextrose, inulin, stevia, citric acid, beet juice, and guar gum that give it flavor and texture.

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: digestive enzyme support for nutrient breakdown.
  • We looked for evidence on: Dyspepsia, Lactose intolerance, Bloating, Gas, Indigestion.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactase is rated "Effective" for Lactose intolerance (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lipase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Dyspepsia.

The evidence for these enzymes is mixed. Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance — that one's well-studied.

For the others in this product — protease, lipase, and the remaining carbohydrate-digesting enzymes — the evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable data to rate how well they work for digestive complaints like indigestion (dyspepsia) or inflammatory bowel disease. That doesn't mean they don't work; it means the research isn't solid enough yet for us to say.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 3 of the 3 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 3 of 3.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 3 of 3.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Protease, lipase, and lactase are generally well tolerated in kids. Rarely, some people have had allergic reactions to proteolytic enzymes — allergic rhinitis or asthma have been reported with occupational airborne exposure, and contact dermatitis and allergic rhinitis with lactase exposure.

In the product form, serious side effects are uncommon, but digestive upset can happen. During pregnancy, protease safety hasn't been established and should be avoided unless prescribed.

Lipase has little safety data in pregnancy — use only if your doctor advises it. Lactase is likely safe in pregnancy.

For breastfeeding, there's minimal data on protease and lipase, so check with your doctor first; lactase acts only in the gut, but still ask your pharmacist or doctor before regular use.

No known interactions
Known Interaction Concern · database check
No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 3 matched ingredients has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. Still, we couldn't verify nine of the twelve enzymes, so if your child takes any prescription medication, check their exact drugs on the interaction tool below before you start.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This is a multi-enzyme digestive supplement for kids. It's generally well tolerated, and lactase in it is proven to help with milk sugar digestion.

If your child has serious digestive conditions or is pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor first — some of these enzymes don't have solid safety data in those situations. And let your pharmacist know if your child takes any medications.

Chewable Kids Digest Fruit Punch Flavor by Enzymedica: Common Questions

Does Chewable Kids Digest Fruit Punch Flavor by Enzymedica interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Chewable Kids Digest Fruit Punch Flavor. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Chewable Kids Digest Fruit Punch Flavor contains 12 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does this work for lactose intolerance?
Yes — lactase, one of the enzymes in this product, is effective for lactose intolerance. The other digestive enzymes don't have enough strong evidence yet for us to say whether they help with common digestive complaints.
Are there any common side effects?
Digestive upset can happen, but these enzymes are generally well tolerated. Allergic reactions are rare; they've been reported mostly in people exposed to powdered forms of the enzymes, not from taking them as a supplement.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Lactase is likely safe in pregnancy. Protease and lipase don't have enough safety data — talk to your doctor before use. For breastfeeding, protease and lipase have limited data, so ask your pharmacist or doctor first before regular use.
What do all these enzymes do?
They break down different parts of food: protease handles protein, lipase handles fat, lactase handles milk sugar, and the others help with various carbohydrates and plant fiber. They're meant to help your child's digestion work better.
Does this have any fillers?
The inactive ingredients include tapioca dextrose, inulin, stevia for sweetness, citric acid, beet juice for color, and guar gum as a thickener. There are no artificial dyes.
