How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cassia cinnamon is generally well tolerated in food amounts. However, at supplement doses—especially high or long-term ones—coumarin in cassia cinnamon may harm your liver over time.
Very high doses (50–7,000 mg daily) have caused liver damage in people, though it reversed after stopping. In clinical trials, doses of 360 mg to 12 grams daily for three months did not significantly raise liver enzymes, but the safety concern remains for prolonged use.
Rare side effects reported include a rash in one trial participant and a low blood sugar (hypoglycemic) seizure in another, though causation is unclear. One person with a cinnamon allergy developed eyelid dermatitis from dietary cinnamon, which cleared five days after discontinuing it.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, food amounts of cinnamon are likely fine, but avoid medicinal or high-dose supplement amounts; safety data in these settings is limited.

Garden Botanicals Cinnamon contains cassia cinnamon bark powder, which has documented interactions with two medication categories.
The most serious concern involves drugs that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs). In theory, large doses of cassia cinnamon might add to that liver burden over time, because cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, a compound that can damage the liver in animal studies.
Very high doses of coumarin (50–7,000 mg daily) have caused liver damage in humans, though it reversed when the coumarin stopped.

Cassia cinnamon may also lower blood sugar levels, so it could have additive effects with diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs). If you take medication to control blood sugar, your doctor might need to adjust your dose.
Although one trial participant developed a rash and another reported a hypoglycemic seizure (low blood sugar event) while taking cinnamon, these are rare reports and the cinnamon connection is unclear. One case of contact dermatitis linked to dietary cinnamon in someone with a cinnamon allergy was also documented.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
