Cinnamon Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Cinnamon against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic cinnamon (cassia variety). The capsule itself is made with modified vegetable cellulose, an inactive ingredient that holds the powder together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for cinnamon isn't established in our data. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for amenorrhea, angina, common cold, diabetes, diarrhea, or dyslipidemia.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the studies we have aren't solid enough yet to call it effective for any of these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cinnamon from food — a pinch in your oatmeal, say — is generally well tolerated. The caution kicks in at supplement doses, especially over long stretches.
Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can damage the liver if you take very high amounts (50–7,000 mg daily in research) for a long time. Clinical trials using 360 mg to 12 grams daily for three months didn't cause significant liver enzyme changes, but extended use at the high end warrants care.
In trials, a small number of people reported a rash, and one case of contact dermatitis from dietary cinnamon was documented. One participant also had a low blood sugar seizure, though the link to cinnamon is unclear.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, food amounts are fine, but avoid supplement doses — there isn't enough safety data at concentrated levels to be certain.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this before taking it if you're on drugs that strain the liver or any diabetes medication. Cassia cinnamon may add to both effects, and your medication doses might need adjusting.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take diabetes medication or liver-stress drugs, check with your pharmacist before adding this supplement. For most other medications, it's not documented to cause problems — but run your list through our tool to be sure.
Stick to food-level amounts unless a healthcare provider has told you otherwise.

Cinnamon by L.A. Naturals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Cinnamon by L.A.
Naturals is a single-ingredient supplement that does interact with certain medications. The main concern is with drugs that stress the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) — cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which in very high doses over time may add to that strain.
If you take any medication known to be hard on the liver, this is worth a quick check with us before you start.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Cassia cinnamon may also lower blood sugar, so it could work together with diabetes medications in ways that need watching. Your doses of blood sugar medication might need adjusting if you add this in.
Altogether, these interactions span 425 individual medications. The good news: if you take neither liver-stressing drugs nor diabetes medications, cinnamon has no documented interactions in our data — though that's not a guarantee none exist.
Run your exact medications through the checker on this page to be sure.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
