What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Codonopsis Root Glycerite Liquid Extract. The inactive ingredients are glycerin (the liquid base) and vanilla flavor.
It's a liquid extract formulation designed to make codonopsis — a traditional plant root — easier to take.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold on codonopsis doesn't establish whether it works for its claimed purposes. The product is marketed for uses including asthma, cancer support, respiratory infections, indigestion, and high cholesterol, but for each of these the data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness.
The lab and animal research hinting at blood-sugar-lowering effects is noted in the interaction section, but that's not the same as proven benefit in people taking it for that reason.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Codonopsis is generally well tolerated in traditional food-like amounts, though high-quality safety data are limited. At very large doses — 30 to 60 grams — it may cause chest pain, irregular heartbeat, throat pain, or voice loss.
Allergic reactions including severe reactions (anaphylaxis) and hives have been reported; one case involved an 18-year-old who had a severe allergic reaction after 20 grams and again when rechallenged with the same dose. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough information to know either way — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — codonopsis may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you're taking the cancer drug abiraterone (Zytiga), as codonopsis may reduce its effectiveness, or diabetes medications, since codonopsis might lower your blood sugar further.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Codonopsis Root Vanilla Flavor may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional herbal support, but the evidence for its specific health claims isn't established in our data. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, or the cancer drug abiraterone, you'll want to check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interaction risks are real.
Same goes if you have a history of food or pollen allergies, given the allergic reaction reports. Talk it over with your healthcare provider before adding this to your routine.

Codonopsis Root Vanilla Flavor by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Codonopsis Root Vanilla Flavor by TerraVita is a single-ingredient liquid extract with documented interactions affecting a substantial number of medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents): codonopsis may theoretically increase bleeding risk when combined with them. A small clinical study in people with heart disease showed that codonopsis liquor reduced how well platelets clump together, though it didn't affect other clotting markers.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Two other moderate-severity interactions are on file. Codonopsis may reduce the levels and effectiveness of the cancer drug abiraterone (Zytiga) — animal research suggests it speeds up how your body clears the drug.
Additionally, codonopsis might increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you're taking diabetes medications, since laboratory and animal research hints that codonopsis itself has blood-sugar-lowering effects.
Altogether, these interactions span 211 individual medications. Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the checker on this page — especially if you take blood thinners, cancer treatments, or diabetes drugs.

For each ingredient in Codonopsis Root Vanilla Flavor with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Codonopsis Root Glycerite Liquid Extract
Abiraterone (Zytiga)
Theoretically, taking codonopsis root with abiraterone might reduce the levels and therapeutic effects of abiraterone.
Animal research in rats shows that intragastric administration of codonopsis root along with abiraterone every 2 days for 2 weeks seems to increase the clearance of abiraterone and reduce the overall exposure and time to maximum concentration. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, codonopsis liquor might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
A small clinical study in adults with coronary heart disease shows that consuming Codonopsis pilosula liquor for 4 weeks inhibits platelet aggregation but does not affect tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) or plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI).
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, codonopsis might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory and animal research suggest that codonopsis has antidiabetic effects.
