This product has 3 active ingredients. Lactoferrin is a protein naturally found in milk and other body fluids; it plays a role in immune function and iron transport.
Lysozyme and colostrum (the nutrient-rich fluid produced in the first days after birth) are the other two active ingredients, each with their own roles in immune support. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients: gelatin, vegetable cellulose, silica, and vegetable magnesium stearate.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence we hold covers lactoferrin only. It's possibly effective for sepsis (a life-threatening blood infection) and pregnancy-related iron deficiency.
For fetal and premature infant mortality and necrotizing enterocolitis (a serious intestinal condition in newborns), the data suggests it's likely ineffective. We don't have effectiveness ratings for lysozyme or colostrum in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactoferrin is generally well tolerated at typical oral doses, though long-term safety data are limited. At higher doses (7.2 grams daily), constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and fatigue have been reported.
It carries a Likely Safe or Possibly Safe rating in pregnancy, though safety isn't fully established — medical supervision is advised. While lactoferrin occurs naturally in breast milk, the safety of supplements while breastfeeding hasn't been well studied.
