The evidence for bovine colostrum is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for rotaviral diarrhea, HIV/AIDS-related diarrhea, and exercise-induced respiratory infections.
However, it's rated possibly ineffective for necrotizing enterocolitis (a serious bowel condition in newborns). Bovine colostrum is generally well tolerated in most adults. A few trial participants reported mild bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and unsettled stomach at about the same rate as those taking a whey-based control.
One person with HIV-related cryptosporidiosis had nausea and vomiting. In HIV patients treated for infectious diarrhea, elevated liver function tests and a drop in red blood cell count have been reported.
If you have a milk or dairy allergy, you should avoid this product. There isn't enough reliable safety data during pregnancy, so it's best to avoid it unless your doctor approves.
Safety during breastfeeding hasn't been well studied — use caution and check with your provider.
