Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Copper supplementation for nutritional support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Copper deficiency, Immune function, Bone health, Connective tissue health.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Copper is rated "Likely Effective" for Copper deficiency (Natural Medicines).

Copper is likely effective for treating copper deficiency, which can occur from malabsorption or certain medical conditions. For Alzheimer disease, the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.

For acne, chemotherapy-related anemia, and brain tumors, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate whether copper works.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Copper from food and standard supplements is safe in normal amounts, but excess copper can become toxic. The safety data advises staying within recommended doses and avoiding high-dose supplements unless your doctor says otherwise.

In pregnancy, copper is needed for fetal development, but stick to recommended amounts and don't take high-dose supplements without medical guidance. Recommended amounts during lactation are considered safe.

Rare side effects have been reported, including contact dermatitis (skin irritation) from copper contact. There's also evidence that people with diabetes tend to have higher blood copper levels than those without diabetes, though it's unclear whether elevated copper contributes to diabetes development or worsening.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Copper.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 31 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your pharmacist if you take penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen)—copper reduces how much of it your body absorbs, so timing matters. If you're on birth control pills, know that they can raise your copper levels, and discuss whether a copper supplement makes sense for you.
