Why this applies to drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, levomefolate

Theoretically, taking copper with contraceptive drugs might increase the levels and toxic effects of copper.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist with Beyaz (drospirenone, ethinyl estradiol, and levomefolate) and a copper supplement. The estrogen in your birth control pill tends to nudge your blood copper levels up on its own. Studies show that women on the pill long term often run copper levels a bit above the usual range, even without taking any extra. So adding a copper supplement on top could push those levels higher still.

The good news is this is rated minor and is mostly theoretical, based on how these things work rather than reports of people getting sick. Most people who eat a normal diet don't need extra copper at all. If you're considering a copper supplement, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first so you're not stacking up more than your body needs.
