A meta-analysis of clinical studies suggests that chronic use of oral contraceptives increases serum copper levels by a mean of 57 mcg/dL. In most people, this resulted in levels above the normal reference range for copper.

Here's the gist with your birth control pill (Yasmin or Gianvi) and copper. The estrogen part, ethinyl estradiol, tends to nudge your body's copper levels upward over time. Studies show women on the pill often run a bit higher on copper than average. If you then add a copper supplement on top of that, the two could stack and push your copper higher than needed.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how things work in the lab, not a dramatic real-world danger. For most people the extra copper causes nothing noticeable. If you take a lot of copper, you might get stomach upset or nausea. The pill itself isn't weakened by this. Unless a doctor diagnosed you with copper deficiency, you probably don't need a copper supplement at all. Check with your pharmacist before adding one.
