A meta-analysis of clinical studies suggests that chronic use of oral contraceptives increases serum copper levels by a mean of 57 mcg/dL. In most people, this resulted in levels above the normal reference range for copper.

Here's the key thing to understand: this interaction runs in one direction. It's not that copper changes how well ella works, but rather that hormonal contraceptives may nudge your copper levels up a bit. The concern is really about copper building up in your body, not about your emergency contraceptive failing or causing extra side effects.

I'll be honest with you though, this is mostly theoretical and based on chronic, daily birth control pills, not a one-time dose. Ulipristal (ella) is a single tablet taken after unprotected sex, so it's very unlikely to meaningfully raise your copper at all. If you're taking a copper supplement long-term, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist, but a one-off dose of ella is nothing to worry about here.
