Norgestrel falls under CONTRACEPTIVE DRUGS — the group Copper interacts with.

Theoretically, taking copper with contraceptive drugs might increase the levels and toxic effects of copper.
A meta-analysis of clinical studies suggests that chronic use of oral contraceptives increases serum copper levels by a mean of 57 mcg/dL. In most people, this resulted in levels above the normal reference range for copper.

Here's the thing to understand: this interaction runs in the opposite direction from what you might expect. Norgestrel (a progestin-only birth control pill) doesn't break down copper. Instead, taking hormonal contraceptives over time tends to nudge your blood copper levels a little higher on its own. So if you also take a copper supplement, the two could add up and push your copper above the normal range.

I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical concern based on how these things behave in the body, and it's rated as minor. Norgestrel itself works the same either way, so your birth control protection isn't affected. Most people who eat a normal diet don't need extra copper anyway. If you've been told to take a copper supplement, just check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on it.

What Is Progestin-Only (norethindrone) Oral Contraceptives Used For?

Norethindrone progestin-only pills — sometimes called the "mini-pill" — are used solely to prevent pregnancy. They do not contain estrogen, which makes them an option for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-containing contraceptives.

When taken perfectly (same time every day, no missed pills), fewer than 1 in 100 women will become pregnant in the first year. With typical use, that number rises to about 9 in 100 — mostly because of late or skipped pills. Consistency is everything with this method.
