Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: D-mannose, a simple sugar your body uses naturally. The powder form means there are no inactive fillers or binders — just the D-mannose itself.

Does it work?

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Leans against

The strongest graded evidence we hold for the stated purpose leans against a benefit.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: cleanse urinary tract and maintain bladder lining.
  • We looked for evidence on: Urinary tract infections (UTIs), urinary tract health, bladder health.
  • The closest evidence on file: D-mannose is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Urinary tract infections (UTIs) (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for D-mannose is mixed. It's rated likely effective for carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome type 1b, a rare metabolic condition.

For urinary tract infections (UTIs), however, the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective — meaning the data doesn't support its use for that purpose, even though it's often marketed that way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

D-mannose is generally well tolerated in the short term, but high-quality long-term safety data are limited — we simply don't have enough long-term study to know if it's safe over years. The most common side effects are bloating, diarrhea, and nausea.

Diarrhea is more likely at higher doses (above 200 mg per kilogram of body weight). There isn't enough reliable safety data in pregnancy, so it's best to avoid it unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Safety while breastfeeding is not well studied, so caution is advised if you're nursing.

No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. That said, always run your specific medications through the checker on this page before you start.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

D-mannose may help with a rare metabolic condition, but the evidence doesn't support using it for UTIs. It's generally tolerated short-term, though digestive side effects like diarrhea and bloating can happen.

Formula

D-Mannose is a naturally occurring simple sugar that your body utilizes to help cleanse the urinary tract and maintain a healthy bladder lining. It's metabolized only in small amounts, with excess amounts rapidly excreted in urine, so it won't interfere with healthy blood sugar regulation. Clinical studies have demonstrated that, when taken regularly, D-Mannose promotes normal urinary tract function by cleansing and maintaining the health of the bladder lining.

D-Mannose Pure Powder by NOW: Common Questions

Does D-Mannose Pure Powder by NOW interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in D-Mannose Pure Powder. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
D-Mannose Pure Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will D-mannose help prevent or treat UTIs?
The evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective for UTIs, so it's not a reliable choice for that purpose. If you have a UTI or recurrent infections, talk to your doctor about proven treatments.
What are the most common side effects?
Bloating, diarrhea, and nausea are the main ones people report. Diarrhea is more likely if you take a large dose at once — spreading doses throughout the day may help.
Can I take it while pregnant?
There isn't enough reliable safety data in pregnancy, so it's best to avoid it unless your doctor advises otherwise. Talk with your OB or pharmacist about your specific situation.
Is this safe to take long-term?
D-mannose is well tolerated short-term, but high-quality long-term safety data are limited. If you're thinking of taking it for months or years, ask your pharmacist about what we know and don't know.
Is this just a filler or does it have an actual role?
D-mannose is the active ingredient — it's not a filler. There are no other ingredients in this powder, just D-mannose itself.
Can I take this while breastfeeding?
Safety while breastfeeding is not well studied, so caution is advised. Chat with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.
