Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: dandelion leaf glycerite liquid extract. Glycerin is the inactive carrier that makes it a liquid.
Dandelion is a plant traditionally used as a food and supplement, and this liquid form is made by extracting the leaf in glycerin.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish how well dandelion works for the conditions listed—joint pain, tonsillitis, and postoperative swelling or pain all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the research data we have aren't strong enough yet to say one way or the other.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, dandelion is generally well tolerated, though supplement-strength doses are less studied than food-strength amounts. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach discomfort.
In sensitive individuals, anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) is rare but possible. You're also at risk of allergic reactions—including allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and contact dermatitis—if you're sensitive to plants in the daisy family (ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, daisies, and others).
There isn't enough reliable information on safety while breastfeeding, so caution is advised and you should talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before starting TerraVita Dandelion Leaf, double-check these medication types with your doctor or pharmacist: blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (moderate risk of increased bleeding), potassium-sparing water pills (moderate risk of high potassium), diabetes medications (moderate risk of low blood sugar), lithium (moderate risk of raised levels), drugs metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP1A2 (moderate risk of increased levels), drugs undergoing glucuronidation (moderate risk of faster clearance), and quinolone antibiotics (moderate risk of lower effectiveness).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Dandelion leaf extract is generally well tolerated at food-strength doses, but supplement-strength products are less studied. The real concern is if you take blood thinners, water pills, diabetes drugs, lithium, or certain antibiotics—check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
If you're allergic to ragweed or plants in the daisy family, skip this one.

Dandelion Leaf by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita Dandelion Leaf Liquid Extract has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern involves blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants/antiplatelet drugs)—dandelion root may inhibit platelet clumping and theoretically increase your risk of bruising and bleeding, though this hasn't been reported in humans yet.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Dandelion also interacts moderately with potassium-sparing water pills (diuretics), diabetes medications, drugs broken down by the liver enzyme CYP1A2, drugs that undergo glucuronidation (a liver detox process), lithium, and quinolone antibiotics. With potassium-sparing diuretics, the concern is high potassium levels; with diabetes drugs, the risk is low blood sugar; with lithium, dandelion's diuretic effect may raise lithium levels; and with quinolone antibiotics, it may lower their absorption and effectiveness.
Altogether, these interactions span 457 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page, and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist—especially if you take any blood thinner, water pill, diabetes drug, or antibiotic.

For each ingredient in Dandelion Leaf with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dandelion Leaf Glycerite Liquid Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
