DIM Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking DIM against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: diindolylmethane, a compound derived from cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cabbage. The capsule also includes inactive ingredients — cellulose, gelatin, dicalcium phosphate, calcium silicate, magnesium stearate, D-alpha-tocopheryl succinate, and silica — which help form and preserve the capsule.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that diindolylmethane works for any of its proposed uses — benign prostate enlargement, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, cervical dysplasia, or breast pain (mastalgia) all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That doesn't mean it's ineffective; it means the science isn't settled yet in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Diindolylmethane is generally well tolerated in short-term studies, but long-term safety isn't well established. The most common side effects are digestive — diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting — plus headache and sometimes rash.
A rare serious reaction called DRESS (drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) has been reported. One case of stroke occurred in a patient taking 200 mg daily alongside other supplements, but she had significant stroke risk factors and it's unclear whether diindolylmethane played a role.
Because diindolylmethane may affect hormones, the safety data advises against use during pregnancy. There isn't enough safety data for breastfeeding, so avoid it while nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check estrogen-based medications and hormone replacement therapy — diindolylmethane may interfere with how they work. Also verify any sodium-depleting diuretics you're on, and ask about CYP1A2 substrate medications (a category your pharmacist can help identify).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Diindolylmethane is a single-ingredient supplement generally tolerated in the short term. If you take estrogen-based medications, diuretics, or other hormonal therapies, check your specific medications on this page first.
Talk with your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of stroke or blood clots.

DIM by Puritan's Pride Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Puritan's Pride DIM contains diindolylmethane, which does interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with estrogens and hormone replacement therapy — diindolylmethane may increase or decrease how estrogens work in your body, and large doses might interfere with your HRT. If you're on birth control or any hormone therapy, you'll want to run it through the checker below.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Diuretic drugs (water pills) that lower sodium are a moderate concern too. Diindolylmethane, especially in larger doses around 600 mg daily, has been linked to low blood sodium (hyponatremia) in a couple of clinical cases.
If you're taking a diuretic for blood pressure or heart issues, double-check with us first.
Lastly, diindolylmethane might speed up how your liver breaks down certain medications called CYP1A2 substrates, which could make them less effective. This hasn't been reported in actual patients yet, but it's worth checking.
Altogether, these interactions span 269 individual medications. Use the search tool on this page to verify your specific drugs before you start.

Diindolylmethane
Diuretic Drugs
Theoretically, diindolylmethane might increase the risk of hyponatremia if used with sodium-depleting diuretics.
Large doses of diindolylmethane (600 mg daily) have been associated with two cases of asymptomatic hyponatremia in clinical research.
Estrogens
Theoretically, diindolylmethane might increase or decrease the effects of estrogens.
Diindolylmethane might have mild estrogenic or antiestrogenic effects. Theoretically, large amounts of diindolylmethane might interfere with hormone replacement therapy.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, diindolylmethane might lower serum levels of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro evidence suggests that diindolylmethane can induce CYP1A2. Theoretically, it might increase metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates and lower serum concentrations. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
