Enzyme Blend Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Flora
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Enzyme Blend against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy
Enzyme Blend is a dietary supplement by Flora with 7 active ingredients. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Enzyme Blend by Flora
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This blend contains seven active digestive enzymes. Three of them — Protease (which breaks down protein), Lipase (which breaks down fat), and Lactase (which breaks down milk sugar) — are well-characterized.
Bromelain, derived from pineapple, is a protein-digesting enzyme. Amylase digests starches, and Cellulase and Alpha-Galactosidase handle plant fibers and complex carbohydrates respectively.
The capsule itself contains inactive ingredients like microcrystalline cellulose, a common binder.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence backing these enzymes is mixed. Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance if you have trouble digesting dairy.
For the other ingredients — Bromelain, Protease, Lipase, and Cellulase — we don't have enough reliable evidence in our data to say whether they work for their intended purposes. The facts don't establish their effectiveness for general digestive support.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these enzymes are generally well tolerated when used short-term. The main concern is allergic reactions, which are rare but documented — bromelain and proteases can occasionally trigger allergy symptoms ranging from mild itching to, in occupational settings, asthma or throat tightness.
Digestive upset like diarrhea, gas, or stomach discomfort can occur, especially with bromelain. Bromelain and Lactase should be avoided during pregnancy unless your doctor prescribes them.
For Protease and Lipase, safety data during pregnancy is limited — talk with your doctor before regular use. Breastfeeding data is also limited for most ingredients here, so check with your healthcare provider first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet medications (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel), bromelain in this blend poses a Moderate risk of increased bleeding. Tetracycline antibiotics carry a Minor interaction risk.
Check your exact medications with the tool on this page before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This blend may help if you have trouble digesting dairy (thanks to lactase) or want general digestive enzyme support. If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or tetracycline antibiotics, talk to your pharmacist before you start — bromelain can interact.
Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding should check with their doctor first.

Enzyme Blend by Flora Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Flora's Enzyme Blend contains seven active ingredients, of which we could fully check three.
Bromelain carries the most serious interaction — a Moderate risk with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (medications like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel). Bromelain may thin the blood further and raise your bleeding risk; one case reported minor bruising when someone took it with naproxen.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bromelain also has a Minor interaction with tetracycline antibiotics — lab work suggests it might increase how much of these antibiotics your body absorbs, though a human study showed no change in blood levels at typical doses.
Protease, Lactase, and Lipase have no documented interactions with medications in our data. We couldn't check Amylase, Cellulase, or Alpha-Galactosidase — we hold no monographs for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 141 individual medications. If you take any blood thinner, antiplatelet drug, or tetracycline antibiotic, use the medication checker below to see your exact medications before you start.

Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
